Ivan Shkumbatyuk was born on October 6, 1980 in Skhidnytsia, an urban-type settlement in the Lviv Region of Ukraine.

From 1999-2006, Fr. Ivan studied at the Ternopil Higher Theological Seminary named after Patriarch Josyf Slipyj (located in Velyka Berezovytsia, an urban-type settlement in the Ternopil Region of Ukraine) where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Theology, in the field of Liturgical Theological Studies.

From 2006-2008, he studied at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, Italy.

In 2009, Fr. Ivan married Olena Fedak. That same year, Fr. Ivan received the Sacrament of Holy Orders from Bishop Mykhail Koltun, Eparch of the Sokal-Zhovkva Eparchy.

From 2009-2018, Fr. Ivan served as Administrator of the parishes The Ascension of the Lord (located in the village of Kurivtsi) and The Resurrection of the Lord (located in the village of Vorobiivka), both located in the Ternopil Region of the Ternopil-Zboriv Eparchy.

In 2011, Fr. Ivan and Olena welcomed their daughter, Solomiia.

On October 13, 2011, he was appointed as Head of the Liturgical Commission of the Ternopil-Zboriv Eparchy and as member of the Patriarchal Liturgical Commission of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine. In 2013, Fr. Ivan received his Specialist's Degree in Accounting and Auditing at the Ternopil National Economic University.

From 2011-2015, Fr. Ivan was a lecturer of Liturgy Science for Teachers of Cathechism at the Communal Institute of Postgraduate Education of Ternopil Pedagogical University named after V. Hnatyuk.

In 2015, Fr. Ivan was appointed as Ecclesiarch of the Ternopil-Zboriv Eparchy.

In 2016, he was appointed as Protopresbyter (Dean) of the Ozerna Protopresbytery of the Ternopil-Zboriv Eparchy.

Starting in 2016 and continuing today, Fr. Ivan serves as chaplain of the Ukrainian volunteer organization “East and West United,” which provides support to those fighting Russian aggression on the eastern front of Ukraine.

In August, 2018, Fr. Ivan, Olena, and Solomiia moved to the United States at the invitation of Bishop Benedict (Aleksiychuk), Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of St. Nicholas in Chicago, IL. Fr. Ivan was appointed to serve as Pastoral Administrator of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Belfield, ND and of St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Fairfield, ND.

In July, 2019, Fr. Ivan was appointed as Pastoral Administrator of St. Constantine Ukrainian Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN and as Protopresbyter (Dean) of the North Central Deanery of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy.
